Calvary Student Ministries

2010: The Year of The Family

General:

Parenting Articles and helps are always included on our weekly student announcements.  These are available at the welcome center and at www.calvarymostudents.com .

Family or Parent/Teen Devotionals

Parents can receive devotions that tie in directly with the materials your teens are studying in Sunday School.  Please let Dan know that you would like to receive these each week and he will email them to you. We have powerful new curriculum this year that you can experience together.

Our student ministry website mentioned above also provides links and information for great family devotionals.  I highly recommend “Heart Connex.”  This e-devotional automatically emails you a devotional twice a week.  The devotionals are free and designed for a parent and a teen to go through together.

Another electronic devotional too for families with teens is available from Dare2Share.  This devotional is also linked on our student website.  The devotional is called “Soul Fuel” and will automatically email you a teen version and a parent version for free.

Wednesday Parent Classes

Spring & Fall Discipleship Class offerings will include classes for parents.  One will be geared specifically for issues relating to parenting teenagers. Studies this year may include “Effective Parenting in a Defective World” by Chip Ingram and “5 Conversations You Must have with Your Daughter” by Vicki Courtney.

Always Welcome & Invited!

Finally, all parents are always welcome and invited to participate in any of our student activities and classes.  I believe parents of teens make great youth ministry volunteers!  You are needed and Your teen may actually like you being there too! ( i.e. - You’re closer for them to ask money from!!)

Family Nights @ The Hangar:  We will be selecting a few evenings or afternoons for the Hangar Student center to be open for families with all ages to come and share in basketball, volleyball, board games, and other items found in our student center.

Family Night at Wednesday Youth Services – Parents and siblings are invited to spend a Wednesday night with the Youth.  Families will get to see what their teens are doing on Wednesdays.  Goal – one in spring and one in fall.  Tentative dates; March 10th &  Oct 6th.

Youth & Family Banquet:  Feb. 12th – A fancy evening to celebrate teen commitments to purity and a “year in review” night for families to enjoy photos, videos, and stories from our student ministries.

Man Challenge: April 10th; A Saturday afternoon/early evening of fun competitions for fathers and sons and other men to build stronger relationships.  In the past these events have included pool tournaments, ping-pong, mini-golf, and go-kart racing.

Just One of the Girls: April 10th; A Saturday afternoon/ early evening similar to the Man challenge only with events selected for mothers and daughter and other ladies to enjoy together.

Family Mission Trip: dates unknown;  typically a construction based project where families can serve together on the mission field.  In the past years this has included hurricane recovery efforts in New Orleans and Galveston.

Family Float Trip:  Aug. 7-  Families that float together build some great memories enjoying God’s creation and each other!

Back to School Splash:  Aug 15th.  A night for your family to enjoy to Republic Aquatic center for free.

Family Day Trip to St. Louis Zoo: Sept. 18th.  Visit the St. Louis Zoo with family and friends.  Free except for food costs.
